It starts off with the MGM logo. It shows off with the title, "Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money." The lettering comes up, "Once upon a time warp... Chapter 2: The money has been stolen by [[Planet Spaceball]]. But [[Lone Starr]] already married [[Princess Vespa]]. Make sure you put on 3-D glasses because this movie is in 3-D!" The other lettering was, "This is a sequel to [[Spaceballs]]." Meanwhile in Planet Spaceball, [[Dark Helmet]] saw [[Evil Colonel Sanderz]] as he tries to turn Spaceball One into a money sucker. "What are you doing, Sanderz?" Helmet asked. "Well, I'm turning Spaceball One into a money sucker," he said back. He does while at Eagle 5, Lone Starr, [[Barf]], Princess Vespa and [[Dot Matrix]] were flying off with all of the money. "Well, guys," said Lone Starr. "We have all of our money and I had already married Vespa and I'm now a prince." "Yeah!" Barf said. "But why didn't you marry the other prince?" He asked Princess Vespa. "I don't know," replied Vespa. TBC

In 2013, Rick Moranis stated that, a few years after the film's release, he and Mel Brooks discussed a sequel, titled Spaceballs III: The Search for Spaceballs II. However, Moranis and Brooks were unable to agree on a deal.[1]

In February 2015, Mel Brooks stated that he is definitely open to making a second movie. With the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens later that year, Brooks figured it would be the perfect time to release a second installment to his beloved franchise; though he had some obstacles, such as getting the then retired Rick Moranis to reprise his role as the evil Dark Helmet (Brooks refused to make the movie without him) and having to sign a deal with Disney to spoof Star Wars yet again, as when he made the first film, he sought approval from George Lucas.[2]

In February 2016, teaser posters began popping up on New York City subways advertising Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money in mass numbers. However, this turned out to be a publicity stunt by an artist.[3]

In May 2017, while hosting a screening of Young Frankenstein, Brooks was asked by an audience member if Spaceballs 2 would ever come true. Brooks responded by saying that due to the success of new Star Wars films like Rogue One and The Force Awakens, and the then-upcoming The Last Jedi and Solo, Star Wars exploded in popularity again, and Brooks revealed that MGM had interest in making a sequel. He further revealed that discussions were taking place concerning another Spaceballs film.[4]

The sequel is mentioned again in The Goldbergs Season 5, Episode 21. During the dream sequence Schwartz-ring fight with Dark Helmet and Adam Goldberg near the end of the episode, Helmet accidentally drops the script for Spaceballs 2, which piques Adam's interest. Helmet uses his figurines to act it out, which Adam loves. Helmet even mentions kissing Princess Vespa after winning an intergalactic ski race. Adam and Helmet agree to work together to make the sequel before Adam wakes up.
